It’s a sad day with the death of the
23 year old girl who has been battling for her life….
The world’s largest democracy, India
has the distinction where rape is committed every few minutes. More shameful is
our capital Delhi which is called the rape capital of India.
The number of cases reported is the
tip of the iceberg as many cases are not reported due to the social stigma
associated with rape victims. Also, many cases are not reported as the culprits
are known or influential people who are known to the family and any reporting
will spoil family reputation. There is no concern shown towards the victim.
The agitation in Delhi must not stop
(infact it must spread to all parts of the country if the govt does not react
fast) and the media which has done a wonderful job till now must continue in
the same vein. Laws must be changed fast and strict penalties, even capital
punishment are a must if we do not want to see the Delhi type episode again.
Our country has so many powerful
woman leaders- Sonia Gandhi, Sushma
Swaraj ,Mayawati ,Jayalalitha and Mamata Banerjee….cant they forget their party
and come as one to push for stricter laws to protect the women in India.
Ours is a country
where we worship Goddess LAXMI, SARASWATI, KALI….. its time we changed our
mindset towards women in the country.
