The age we live in.
We have taller buildings but
shorter tempers; wider freeways but narrower viewpoints; we spend more but save
less; we buy more but enjoy less. We have bigger houses but smaller families;
more conveniences but less time ; we have more degrees but less common sense ;
we have more knowledge but less judgment
; more medicines but less well being ; we spend too much but laugh too little,
drive too fast, get angry too quickly, stay up too late , get up too tired,
read too rarely, watch too much TV and pray to little. We have more variety of
food but less nutrition.
We have multiplied our possessions
but reduced our values; we talk too much, love too seldom and lie too often. We
have learned to make a living but not a life; we have added years to life but
not life to the years.
We have been all the way to the
moon and back but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor; we
have conquered outer space but not inner space.
We have done larger things but not
better things; we have split the atom but not our prejudice; we write more but
learn less; we plan more but accomplish less.
We have learnt to rush but not to wait;
we have higher incomes but lower morals ; more food but less appetite ; more
acquaintances but fewer friends.
We have more information but less communication;
we have become large on quantity but short on quality. We have fast foods with
slow digestion; tall men with short character and steep profits and shallow
relationships. We talk of world peace but are faced with domestic warfare;
These are the days of two incomes
but more divorces; more fancy houses but broken homes….
This is the age we live in……
