Series Lost - let down by bowlers !!!

After 28 years England won a series in India. India lost a home series after 10 years. Indian cricket has stooped to a new low. England deserved to win and full credit to the Englishmen the way they played. India on the other hand have themselves to blame. On home conditions losing to England will not be forgotten soon.

The blame game has started with the captain blaming the batsmen for the loss. How stupid is this. In fact our bowlers failed miserably and on tracks prepared specially to suit our spinners, they failed to take 20 wickets in all the test matches except Ahmedabad. On the other hand, the English spinners did a wonderful job. They were far better than any of our spinners. Indians, who were known to play spin better, struggled against Swan & Panesar.

Even though in the last test match we played with 4 specialist spinners, we were not able to get 20 wickets and win the match. The quality of the spinners we have at present are not at all match winners. They have just performed in patches.
The biggest problem faced by Indian cricket is lack of quality bowlers. We do not have match winners like a Kapil Dev or a Anil Kumble. These 2 cricketers have won India so many matches single handedly. Why are we not able to groom good bowlers ??? Our nation is obsessed with batting. Every one wants to be a batsman. Everyone wants to hit fours and sixes. No one wants to take up bowling seriously. With bowlers getting hit in the shorter version of the game, there is a tilt with the younger generation towards being a batsman. Even in the nets a bowler doesn’t like to be hit. Look at the bowlers face when he is hit .

The biggest step the board has to take is to develop / nurture bowlers and make them match winners. There is no dearth of talent in our country. Unless there is encouragement on this front, india will only produce batsmen and we will never have quality bowlers.

It’s time to act fast , else we will continue the losing streak at home also…..
